Misdemeanors are crimes that are punishable by a maximum sentence of imprisonment of 11 months and 29 days.

Many common crimes – driving while license suspended and domestic violence, for example – are misdemeanors. Other crimes – driving under the influence of intoxicants and drug possession – are misdemeanor offenses, but may be elevated to felony status depending on one’s criminal history.
