Robbery

If you are arrested and charged with robbery, speak with an experienced lawyer immediately.

What is Robbery?

Robbery is exercising control of property with the intent to deprive the owner of it, and using violence to accomplish the taking. Robbery is a felony. There are different categories of robberies. The distinctions are whether a deadly weapon was used (or threatened to be used) and whether there was bodily injury. Even if a toy gun was used, defendants may be charged with aggravated robbery. Robbery offenses are prosecuted in either the state or federal courts.

Robbery offenses vary. They include robbery, aggravated robbery and especially aggravated robbery. Robbery offenses that are prosecuted in federal court are generally offenses committed in stores or shopping centers.

What Happens if I Am Arrested for Robbery?

After a person is arrested for robbery, the presiding judge sets bond and the conditions of release. The amount of bail that will be set is a factor of several issues. These include a person’s criminal history, his ties to the community and the type of theft offense with which he is charged. Robbery crimes – which includes especially aggravated robbery, aggravated robbery and robbery – are more serious than virtually any other offenses.

A significant factor specific to robbery offenses is injury to the victim. If the victim was not injured – or the injuries did not rise to the level of serious bodily injury – we seek to demonstrate that to the Court in order to gain a reduced bond.
